Bio
Kara Peters is a South African graphic designer, surface pattern designer and Illustrator, working from a cheerful home-based studio in the Joburg area. After living overseas for quite a few years, in 4 different countries, she happily returned to her home country a couple of years ago, together with her multi-accented family.
She has a passion for creating patterns and designs that can be applied onto fabrics, wallpaper and other products.. She is a self taught artist and designer. She enjoys doing frequent online design challenges and continually learning from others. She has a diploma in Interior Design (which, honestly, she really did as a bucket-list thing with her love of design and home décor!).
Most of her designs are digitally illustrated on her trusty iPad, but she also uses traditional mediums, such as ink, watercolor, markers and acrylics. Kara was influenced from a young age by the colour and geometrics of Ndebele and other African art and, still, to this day loves bold lines, dots, circles, nature and adores colour. She is excited to share her art and designs in her home country, elsewhere, and to spread optimism and fun through her artwork.
WEAVING CIRCLES COLLECTION
While Kara often illustrates in bright colours, this collection is a departure into a more neutral palette, which reminds her of the bush of Mpumalanga, where she has spent a lot of time from childhood to the present, enjoying nature with her family. The circles, shapes and hand drawn linework are very distinctive of her style and the various coordinates of the collection were illustrated digitally, with ink pens and made with block prints. The collection is reminiscent of grass, nature, weaved baskets and bowls, with a bold African influence, and, of course, satisfying circles everywhere.
